Vesna Kracanović

How our Wardrobe Affects our Self-Image & Confidence

Introduction

Written by: Jasmina Ubiparip | February 25, 2026

Vesna Kracanovic graduated at the College for Fine and Applied Arts in 2006, as well as at the Faculty of Forestry, Department of Landscape Architecture in 2007. She has been involved in fashion design since 2003. She created her first collections in Belgrade, where she opened the first workshop in 2006. In 2010, in cooperation with Aleksandra Lalic, she created the joint brand Modle and opened her first designer shop. This shop has been working very successfully and is situated in Belgrade Design District in Belgrade.

Brand Modle emphasizes the process of production, problem which the two designers want to solve; collection is not always the goal, it could be the mediator. Brand Modle emerged from their decade-long clothes design and mutual view on fashion design. Both Vesna Kracanovic and Aleksandra Lalic, as the two designers of Modle, are not burdened by current trends and they design clean and clear forms which rely on the distinctiveness of female body.

Vesna Kracanović is one of the most prominent Serbian fashion designers, present on the scene for over two decades. Her collections have been exhibited at fashion events both locally and abroad. She is a recipient of numerous awards, and her work is characterized by precise tailoring, clear forms, and longevity as a core value—both in fashion and in the relationship with one’s body and style.

Through your years of working with women, what have you realized is key for a woman to truly feel good in her clothes? Is there something we all often do when choosing clothes that actually makes it harder for us to feel confidence—not for fashion reasons, but for personal ones?

Vesna: The idea for Modle was born from a need to return dignity to form. I wanted to create pieces that aren't tied to a season, but to character—clothing that lasts through time and through a woman's life. ModleMint came later, from the same philosophy but with a different energy, as an everyday, wearable line that retains the architecture of the cut but brings lightness and comfort. If you had to describe your personal style in a few words, which adjectives would you choose? Vesna: Structural, calm, memorable.

Main Discussion

Vesna: When a cut doesn't try to dominate the body, but rather engages in a dialogue with it, that’s when true confidence is born—calm, stable, and without the need to prove anything.

What would you advise women who want to build a recognizable personal style but don't want to follow trends that don't suit them?

Vesna: If we follow trends that don't feel right, we are actually agreeing to someone else's idea of who we are. Style emerges when a woman has the courage to remain consistent with her own sensibility.

How can clothing help us accept "imperfections" and body changes that come with age, instead of hiding or "correcting" them?

Vesna: Acceptance doesn't come from perfection, but from the relationship we have with ourselves. When a woman stops warring with her own body and allows clothing to follow it, rather than discipline it, then "imperfections" stop being a problem and become part of her identity.

What has been the hardest thing for you to learn over the years—about fashion, but also about yourself?

Vesna: About myself, I’ve learned that patience is more important than ambition. That continuity builds more than spectacle. And that authenticity, no matter how quiet it may be, has more long-term power than conformity.

Modle and ModleMint are your brands based on comfort, minimalism, and timeless forms. How did the idea for them start and what need do they fulfill for women?

Vesna: The idea for Modle was born from a need to return dignity to form. I wanted to create pieces that aren't tied to a season, but to character—clothing that lasts through time and through a woman's life. ModleMint came later, from the same philosophy but with a different energy, as an everyday, wearable line that retains the architecture of the cut but brings lightness and comfort.

If you had to describe your personal style in a few words, which adjectives would you choose?

Vesna: Structural, calm, memorable.
